Mark your diaries: another news channel is going live on DStv. Last week we welcomed the new SABC 24 Hour News channel and in a few weeks time, we'll welcome the new Africa News Network 7 (ANN7). Slated to being on the 21st of August, the news channel has been making noise in the media, with journalists being offered jobs on the network.
Shahan Ramkissoon recently left eNCA and jumped ship to ANN7. (Shahan Ramkissoon did NOT join ANN7. Apologies for that incorrect information.) Other seasoned TV personalities joining ANN7 include Gerry Elsdon, Chantal Rutter-Dros and surprisingly, kwaito singer and label boss, Arthur Mafokate.
It's great news that there are now more homegrown news channels. eNCA has been doing well, but naturally needs some competition. It's great that SABC News 24 and ANN7 have come into the mix as we now can compare them to see which of them actually give South Africans the most balanced news, and news orientated content.
Here's more information about ANN7
