Introducing StarSat

So today marked the end of TopTV when it officially became StarSat. The embattled satellite TV provider, owned by On Digital Media, was going through many difficulties- financial, content and PR wise. Chinese consortium, StarTimes, which has made inroads in Africa when it comes to digital satellite transmitting, has pumped in more than R30 million into ODM. They now own 20% of ODM. StarTimes is the biggest DTT operators, with more than 2,5 million subscribers in the continent. According to a statement released by ODM, StarTimes has recently signed a 10 year contract with SES, a satellite company, which will enable it to expand it;s media footprint in Africa. ODM believes that this will be an opportunity to expand the pay TV offering in Africa at a much affordable rate.

At the launch, which was held in Johannesburg this morning, StarTimes President, Pang Xinxing said that viewers are the ones who benefit when there is diversity in the broadcasting space. “We believe that diversity in the broadcasting space benefits the viewer the most, which is why we are so excited about the launch of StarSat here today: now South African viewers will have a wider range of choice of television services to which they can subscribe.” Interim CEO, Eddie Mbalo, formerly CEO of NFVF said; "...the entry of StarSat into the pay television market “promises a new viewing experience."

ODM now has the licence to broadcast StarSat content and has now changed TopTV to StarSat.  It has also changed its tagline to Change Your View.

From tomorrow (01 November 2013) TopTV subscribers will have new channels to sample during November in the will be added in the Variety package and in December, new channels and bouquets will be on offer. One of the bouquets includes the porn package. ODM receive permission from ICASA earlier this year, to broadcast porn. There will be a dedicated porn bouquet, Playboy TV.

StarSat's decoder is HD, which means that soon StarSat subscribers will have HD content on their TV. But that will be launched later on in the year or early next year.

Other changes include channel names. The Top channels will now change, and will be prefixed with Star. The Top Movies channels, will now be StarMovies; Top One will change to StarSat etc. Most of the third party channels, like TLC, FLN, FX and Fox, will remain unchanged.

Here's a fact sheet from ODM on the changes, when they kick in and what this means for current TopTV subscribers:

StarSat previously operated as Top TV.
StarSat was officially launched on Thursday 31 October 2013.
The new programming will be available from 1 December 2013.
StarSat’s decoder is fully High-Definition (HD).
The new platform offers new revised program bouquets at competitive rates, with more channels in each package.
Existing TopTV customers will still be able to receive the StarSat signal on the old Top TV decoder.
Existing and new subscribers will be given promotional material regarding the new pricing structures.

After a rocky three years, ODM really needs this to work out for them. But will it? We sure hope so.

Update: TopTV becomes StarSat

It's official- TopTV is no more. In it's place is StarSat.

This was revealed this morning in Johannesburg. From tomorrow, TopTV will now be known as StarSat, after it was acquired by Chines outfit, StarTimes. Thinus Ferreira of TV with Thinus reports that TopTV's current subscribers will get new TV channels for free sampling from tomorrow. Plus StarSat will launch new packages in December.

In a statement released on TopTV's Facebook Page, we have found out more details about the changes in TopTV, even though it is not saying much.

Press Release

On Digital Media in partnership with StarTimes has today officially launched new pay television platform StarSat, previously operating as TopTV. StarSat’s tagline encourages South Africans to Change your view from the traditional to the exceptional. StarSat offers a revolutionary, cutting edge technology viewing experience, backed by some of the most internationally renowned television brands.
According to ODM’s Interim CEO, Mr. Eddie Mbalo, the entry of StarSat into the pay television market “promises a new viewing experience”. He added that the channel would offer a range of programming from entertainment to news to education.
Customers who have TopTV decoders will still be able to use and receive the StarSat signal, or if they choose to upgrade, they can buy a new StarSat HD decoder. Viewers whose subscriptions have lapsed will just need to contact the call centre to reactivate their subscriptions with the new StarSat package. StarSat has introduced a range of new packages and channels – and new pricing structures – which will be available to subscribers as of 01 December 2013.
Speaking at the launch, the President of StarTimes, Mr. Pang Xinxing said, “We believe that diversity in the broadcasting space benefits the viewer the most, which is why we are so excited about the launch of StarSat here today: now South African viewers will have a wider range of choice of television services to which they can subscribe.”

On Digital Media is currently in the process of concluding the implementation of the Business Rescue Plan, as voted on and adopted by its creditors and shareholders on 30 April 2013. This is a legally binding process that allows for the company to continue to operate in the normal cause of business and to be restructured within the protective bubble of business rescue as per Chapter 6 of the Companies Act.

Idols Top 5: Double Trouble

The Top 5

It's the Top 5 of the ninth season of M-Net's Idols. And this week they tackle two songs- a 90s hit and a hit from the 00s. It should be interesting. The song choices from Musa and Sonke are once again very surprising. No wonder they are frontrunners. And Zoe, as much as her voice isn't that great, she's a performer and she should knock her songs out the park.

Brenden Ledwaba from Graskop in Mpumalanga [@brenden_praise], hit the Bottom 3 for the first time last week and he chose Usher’s “Nice And Slow” from the Nineties and “Jailer” from the Nigerian singer-songwriter Aṣa with which to redeem himself.

Bunny Majaja from Florida Glen in Johannesburg [@BunnyMajaja] chose Robin S’s 1990 hit “Show Me Love” and a more recent local hit, “Ndiredi” from Simphiwe Dana, as her two numbers.

Musa Sukwene  from eMalahleni in Mpumalanga [@musathevoice] is going to “Bump And Grind” like R. Kelly back in the Nineties and for his Naughties hit he selected Dave Hollister’s “Can’t Stay”.

Sonke Mazibuko from Soweto [@sonke_mazibuko] is covering The Fugees’ version of “Killing Me Softly”, which was a massive hit back in 1995, and then he’ll go upbeat with Michael Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet”.

Zoe Nana from Bishop Lavis in Cape Town [@zoe_zana] is going old-school with the Janet Jackson’s classic “Together Again”, before rocking out with Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor”.
Who will knock it out of the park? Find out on Sunday at 5.30pm on M-Net and Mzansi   Magic

Why you must watch End Game

We haven't been so excited about a local TV show since Isibaya, Rockville and Geraamtes in die Kas. Maybe it's because of the production team behind the show. Maybe it's the actors. But whatever it is, we can't wait for SABC 1's End Game.

So here are our reasons on why you should watch End Game, which starts tonight on SABC 1.

Great Actors

End Game boasts some of South Africa's best actors. Hlomla Dandala, Bubu Mazibuko, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Dineo Nchabeleng and Yonda Thomas. A mix of veteran actors and young talent. It's a return to TV for Dineo Nchabeleng, after a sabbatical that spanned more than five years. The supporting cast also includes some of SA's best and rising stars- Siyabonga Xaba, Tango Ncetezo, Sipho Ngwenya, Jerry Mofokeng, Letoya Mangezi, Lucky Khoza  and Ronnie Nyakale.

Incredible Writing Team

Head written by co-creator, Thandi Brewer, other writers include; Peter Goldsmid, Bruce Young, Salah Sabiti and Zamo Mkhwanazi. These writers have been behind some of South Africa's best TV series, including The Lab, uGugu no Andile, Interrogation Room, Hillside, Hard Copy, Fourplay: Sex Tips for Girls, Hopeville, Generations, Isidingo, Rhythm City and Scandal. And this is only just to name a few!

Akin Omotoso is Head Director

Akin is a great actor and he's even better as a director. He won a Best Director SAFTA for hi work on A Place Called Home and he directed Soul City, God is African and Man on Ground, which was shown in the Berlin and Toronto Film Festivals.

The Story is Riveting

"A fast paced political thriller that will keep on on the edge of our seats." Those are the words from Dineo Nchabeleng, who plays Ayanda Hlatshwayo, the minister's daughter. There's a plot to kill the president and the main protagonist, Khosi Hlatswayo, the minister's wife, played by Bubu Mazibuko, is in too deep. The politics and the effect it has on families, the country and politicians- what is at stake?

It's Local

Granted, sometimes local productions disappoint, but this one isn't going to disappoint, If it does, then there really isn't hope for us. It has taken six years for the story to be on air and after waiting that long, they wouldn't dare make a terrible show. And with so many great actors, some we haven't seen on our screens in a while (Bubu Mazibuko, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Dineo Nchabeleng) we are sure it will not disappoint.

Tune in tonight at 8.30pm on SABC 1.

Nicky Greenwall's The Big Picture

Could Nicky Greenwall be one of the hardest working TV presenters and producers in South Africa? It wouldn't be surprising.

After new seasons of Screentime and The Close Up, comes The Big Picture- a movie review show. From red carpet premiere interviews, sit down chats with actors and previews and reviews of the latest releases, The Big Picture seeks to keep movie fans satiated with all the latest in the film world.

The Big Picture, which will premiere on Tuesday, 19 November at 9.30pm on e.tv and eNCA, is Nicky's fourth current production for e.tv. She said that The Big Picture aims to be an overview of everything that is making an impact on the local box office every week.

“This is a show for people who love movies. It's escapism, it's engaging, it's entertaining – all the things a good movie should be,”  she said in a statement. “We want The Big Picture to put all these movie releases into a local context for our audiences. These days there is so much out there to choose from – people need to really be convinced that a movie is for them before they buy a ticket or hit that “download” button."

According to a statement released by e.tv, The Big Picture will feature all the latest red carpet premieres of local and international releases in the week before they make their debut in SA cinemas. Aside from all the big screen action – the show will also feature a segment on classic movies making a reappearance on the small screen.

How does Nicky manage all these shows? She gave birth earlier this year and we can't imagine how she does all of this with a newborn. The Close Up ends on 12 November and the third season of Screentime with Nicky Greenwall starts in April 2014. We do wish that she'd bring back The Showbiz Report, which was an excellent show and was different from all the others.

So if you're a movie fan, don't miss The Big Picture, which replaces The Close Up, from Tuesday, 19 November at 9.30pm on e.tv and ENCA.

SABC 2's Geraamtes in die Kas is amazing

The cast of Geraamtes in die Kas
I am blown away.

When I received the press release about the show, detailing the plot, the cast and their characters, the production team, I somehow knew that we had to expect a great show. But what I didn't know was just how good it actually really is. Watching it was just affirmation that this is a great show. I was shocked, I was scared I laughed! Three different emotions in a space of 45 minutes. I already have favourites and characters that I don't really like. I want to know what happens next, which is always good for a TV series. The writing is really great and the one liners ("I really don't understand idiots") will leave you with a smile.

Bravo to Luke and Josh Rous on an excellent show. Bravo to SABC 2 for commissioning the show and for finally airing it. To think that Gerhard Pretorius, SABC 2's channel head, then head of content, signed for the show in March 2012, but we only get to see it now, is unbelievebale.

Geraamtes in die Kas is an Afrikaans drama series, set in Johannesburg about four psychologists who work at Vermaak en Vernote (Vermaak and Partners).  They all have their secrets- issues they are dealing with.

If you missed the first episode, then you missed the start of what is sure to be a successful South African show.

We did a post about the show earlier this month- but if you missed it, go here

Here's who the main characters are and what they are about and what we think about them from what we saw on the first episode.

Anthony Hopkins loves Breaking Bad

Who knew that Sir Anthony Hopkins, is a Breaking Bad fan? Rihanna, Ricky Gervais, Britney Spears, Zach Braff and Keith Richards are just some of the big stars who are fans of the cult show, regarded as the Best TV Show, Ever. Hopkins has now joined the list of famous fans and after finishing the show, he wrote a letter to Bryan Cranston and the whole cast of the show! How awesome is that?

Dear Mister Cranston.
I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.
I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.
I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!
Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.
I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.
But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department – casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.
From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.
If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.
Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.
You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.
That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.
Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.
Best regards
Tony Hopkins.
How awesome is this?

Rockville Season 2 In Production

Good news fans of Mzansi Magic's surprise hit drama, Rockville. The ten part drama series has started production on the second season and once again, Ferguson Films is on the helm of the production.

Starring Shona and Connie Ferguson, Minnie Dlamini, Boitumelo Thulo, Bonnie Mbuli and Mbali Mlotshwa, the second season of the show will revolve around the spoken and unspoken obligations within families. Do the sons and daughters bear the sins of their mothers and fathers is a question that viewers will have in mind when they watch the drama unfold.

Bobby Heaney is back as showrunner, as are Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon as head writers.

M-Net's Director of local interest channels, Yolisa Phahle said that they are excited to commission a second season of the drama.

“The quality, compelling narrative and high production value of the first season has paved the way for another 10 episodes, confirming our belief that telling stories which reflect the diversity and reality of life in South Africa is what viewers want to see.”

Rockville Season 2 will debut in 2014 on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161).

"Why is it still groundbreaking for a TV show like Scandal to have a black female star?"

Kerry Washington is making it rain as Olivia Pope on Scandal (The Fixer)
We came across this piece on the NewStatesman about why in 2013, it's still groundbreaking that a show like Scandal (The Fixer) exists.

Written by the talented Bim Adewunmi the article makes points that we have been thinking about everytime there's any hype about the show. Scandal was always going to attract the racial comments- the first broadcast network black actress lead TV show since the 70s; a show created by a black woman (Shonda Rhimes) about a another black woman; and also the fact that Kerry Washington is the first black woman since the 90s to get nominated for a Leading Actress Emmy Awards.

The show is good. Really good. The role of Olivia Pope has changed Kerry's life forever and it couldn't have come at a better time. Look how many mainstream magazines have had her on their glossy covers? She's even been named the most stylish person of 2013. All because of this now iconic role.

But the sad thing is why has it taken so long for this to happen? Here are excerpts from the article:
But back to Scandal, which is impressive while still carrying the mantle of startling "firsts" for a television show being broadcast in the 2010s. Here are the facts of it: it was created by a black woman, based on the life of a black woman, and stars a black woman in the lead role. Washington is the first black woman to be starring in a US primetime network show since the 1970s. For the show’s eighth episode of the current (third) series, creator Shonda Rhimes has enlisted the talent of Sundance-winning Best Director Ava DuVernay (in turn, she was the first African-American winner of that prize). Ebony magazine tells us it “will be the first time a Black woman directs a primetime network TV drama created by a Black woman and starring a Black woman.” It is 2013.

A Happy Ending for Eliza Coupe?

When ABC cancelled Happy Endings, the world let out a collective groan. How could they? Such a great, funny show? How dare they shuffle it around so much until it lost viewers so much that people didn't know when it was on, until ABC had to cancel it? It's all ABC's fault that one of the funniest comedies of the past three years is no more.

*sigh* That was then, this is now. With Adam Pally (Max) having joined The Mindy Project and Damon Wayans Jr. (Brad) returning to New Girl for a guest role as Coach, its not looking too bad for the cast.

Now Eliza Coupe, who starred as Jane, has been cast in a new sitcom for US cable network which brought us Suits, USA . According to Vulture, she will star in Benched, which is created and written by Damon Jones and Michaela Watkins, whose work can currently be seen on the awesome Trophy Wife starring Malin Akerman. Benched is about a high-end corporate lawyer who has a public meltdown after she doesn't get promoted, instead ending up working as a public defender.

This sounds promising. It's a better premise than some of the other comedies that have been made this season (looking at you Dads, Lucky 7, Super Fun Night and Sean Saves the World).

Eliza is currently guest starring on The Millers and will be on House of Cards too.

We are rooting for her to also get her Happy Ending with Benched. Pun so not intended.

Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp in NBC's "The Sound of Music"

It was announced earlier this year that American Idol winner and country music superstar, Carrie Underwood, was cast as Maria von Trapp in the iconic The Sound of Music. But unlike the Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer version, NBC will be showing the performance LIVE, which means Carrie Underwood must impress with her acting skills and even more so with her singing skills. It's like theatre for TV. There is still no word from local channels on who will show this performance on any of our channels.

Carrie did an interview with AP's John Carucci on Tuesday about the iconic role:

NEW YORK (AP) — The end of the year looks busy for Carrie Underwood, and she couldn't be happier.
The six-time Grammy-winning singer will host the Country Music Association Awards for the sixth time. You can see her singing the opening on NBC's Sunday Night Football. And for one night in December, she'll star in a live television version of The Sound of Music.
The 30-year-old star told the Associated Press on the red carpet Tuesday night at the TJ Martell Foundation gala, where she was one of the night's honorees, that she nervous doing something she's never done before. But then she realized, "None of us have. This is a live show on TV. So this is definitely a challenge for all of us."
She said the live singing and acting was like "going to a Broadway show, but you're in your living room."
The Sound of Music airs Dec. 5 on NBC with Underwood playing Maria alongside True Blood vampire Stephen Moyer. He portrays Captain von Trapp. Broadway veterans — and Tony winners — Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle round out the cast as Mother Abbess, Elsa and Max.
While the Nashville, Tenn.-based Underwood is no stranger to performing before millions of people on live television — she won the fourth season of American Idol — she felt she needed more preparation, so she showed up in New York three weeks early.
"I wanted to be here and have all my lines memorized and everything and be ready for it. It's been really wonderful," Underwood said. "Audra and Laura are incredible. Stephen's great. It's nice to be surrounded by that much talent."
Before doing that show, the multiplatinum-selling artist returns to her hosting duties on the CMAs. She's nominated for three awards, including album of the year and song of the year. While she and co-host Brad Paisley have it down to a science, she doesn't see the experience as old hat.
"You never know what's going to happen with us hosting," Underwood joked.
She added: "I think being nominated — especially when hosting the CMAs — you just never know."
The CMAs take place Nov. 6 in Nashville.
*****
Now we hope one of the channels snaps it up. How about it M-Net or SABC 3? It would make for great Christmas Day viewing, don't you think?

Isidingo's Benjamin Le Roux is Ruthless

RUTHLESS

The resident bad boy of Isidingo recently bought OnTV! Why? Buhle Mbonambi chatted to actor, Arno Marais

When we were introduced to Benjamin le Roux in 2009, it was no surprise that viewers immediately hated him. He was a bully and got a thrill out of making his friends’ (and even his enemies’) lives miserable.
It’s that ruthlessness that has made Le Roux a savvy businessman. Now alone without his family and few friends in Horizon Deep, he is a lone man on a mission: power. He gained control of Le Roux Enterprises, and recently severed ties with his partners, Rajesh Kumar and Barker Haines in their mining company KME. He now has the biggest and most influential Horizon Deep entity: OnTV!
“Ben has always had an interest with TV. He loves the thrill of it. But then to own a whole TV station beats being on a TV show.”
As to why he thinks Benjamin bought OnTV! Marais says, “He’s power hungry. He always has been. And now with him owning OnTV! which is a very influential media source in Horizon Deep, he could easily use the station to tarnish the reputations of his enemies.” But will he? “Well there’s a chance he will. Benjamin does want the station to work and to be a great investment. Now whether he will use it to destroy his enemies – it’s a possibility. I wouldn’t put it past him. But I think for now he wants to make the station work and be a success. He’s a businessman, vindictive and petty, yes, but he still wants to be respected by his peers in business.”

Analysis of the Royalty Soapie Awards Nominees

Firstly I feel that we should congratulate the Royalty Soapie Awards for finally releasing the full list of nominees. For a long time, things weren't looking good for the inaugural event and now that the nominees are released and the hosts announced, there really is no reason for the awards to not happen on the 8th of March 2014 at the Durban ICC Arena.

As with every awards ceremony, every TV writer worth their salt will go through the list of nominated actors and find that there are glaring omissions. There are many reasons for those omissions. Sometimes the actor or the production chooses not to enter their work to be considered worthy of a nomination, like e.tv has done. But that's rare. And that is why there is always some drama associated with these omissions.

We saw it at the recent announcement of the Emmy Awards, where Orphan Black actress, Tatiana Maslany was snubbed. Arguably the performance of the year, Maslany being sidetrack was a big issue and once again showed how out of touch Emmy voters really were. But enough about the Emmy's.

The nominees for the Royalty Soapie Awards are mostly solid, with a few glaring omissions (and surprising additions) We'll be listing the actors and the performances we feel were snubbed by the judges.

Let's be honest. E.tv made it really difficult by pulling out of the awards. There were so many great performances this year from Rhythm City and Scandal, that's it's a shame they are not being represented. However the show goes on.

Siyabonga Twala (PIC: INLSA)
Outstanding Lead Actor
Menzi Ngubane  as Sibusiso Dlomo  for Generations
Siyabonga Twala  as Mpiyakhe Zungu  for Isibaya
Kevin Smith   as Frank Xavier   for Isidingo
Siyabonga Twala  as Busani Mojalefa  for Muvhango
Shona Ferguson  as Itumaleng   for The Wild

It's a pretty solid line-up, however why nominate Siyabonga Twala twice? He just started his role as Busani Mojalefa on SABC's Muvhango and he really hasn't done much to warrant a Best Actor nod. Yes, he's a leading man and a great actor, but it's a wasted spot. He did a better job on Isibaya (even though he wasn't on the show for more than a month.)

If I was on the judging panel, I would've added Bheki Mkhwane into the mix. He's an excellent actor and he kills his role as Samson Ndlovu. He's a class act and he honestly steals the show every time he's on screen.

I would have also added Isidingo's Vusi Kunene (Jefferson Sibeko) to the line up. Jefferson is a tricky, complex character- vindictive, power hungry, but still human. It takes a gifted actor to be able to be believable in a role like that. And while I may not particularly like Jefferson, Vusi does him justice. This is honestly one of the biggest snubs.

Royalty Soapie Awards Acting Nominees

Finally. The nominees for the acting categories for the inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards were released early this morning.

In a video, RSA hosts, Michael Mol and Hlomla Dandala announced the nominees.

After several glitches, it's good to see that the awards are back on track. They had promised to announce the nominees on 23 October 2013. They delivered. They announced the hosts last week. The date has been set. All that is remaining for the organisers to do is to make sure they deliver an excellent show.

One thing that I've noticed- are they sure about Michael and Hlomla hosting the awards together? I do wish there was a lady in between the sausage fest. But let's hope that Hlomla and Michael will do research on how to host an awards show successfully.

We still can't help wonder how the awards would have looked like had e.tv shows, Scandal and Rhythm City not been pulled out of competition. e.tv and its diva antics sometimes. But then with so many delays, can we blame e.tv? We digress.

Mzansi Magic's hit telenovella, Isibaya is leading with 19 nominations in the acting, creative and technical categories. It's a coup for the show, which I just recently learnt was first offered to SABC 1.

Without much further ado, here are the nominees for the inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards

Outstanding Lead Actor
Menzi Ngubane  as Sibusiso Dlomo  for Generations

Channel O Music Video Awards to be hosted by AKA and Naeto C

AKA and Naeto C
Channel O announced yesterday that rappers, AKA and Naeto C will be hosting the 2013 edition of the Channel O Music Video Awards, also known as the CHOMVAs.

The CHOMVAs, which will take place on 30 November 2013, at the Walter Sisulu Square, in Kliptown, Soweto.

Both AKA and Naeto C are both big stars in the African music industry, with AKA currently one of the most popular rappers in South Africa and Naeto C in Nigeria. They are big stars, so it's not surprising that Channel O picked them to host the awards. However are they going to be great MC's for the night? I wish they had continued with last year's format.

Anele Mdoda and Weza Solange
Last year, Bonang Matheba and Ice Prince Zamani, hosted the awards. Maybe if they have both guys and then add proven presenters, like Weza Solange (or is it da Silva) and Anele Mdoda, you know, just to get some experience in there and make sure that the show rocks!

Here are the nominees for this year's edition of the awards
