BREAKING: Royalty Soapie Awards postponed to 2014

We are not so surprised that the awards have been postponed to 2014.

We first heard the rumour about the first Royalty Soapie Awards being postponed for 2014, on Thursday, at the launch of the David Tlale Fashion Extravaganza in Durban.

And with the e.tv drama, with the channel pulling Rhythm City and Scandal from contention, this is another huge blow for the inaugural awards.

Here's a statement from the RSAs

***Press Release***

South Africa's inaugural awards ceremony focussing on television soap opera will now take place in the first quarter of 2014.

Said Royalty Soapie Awards project director Sindile Xulu, "to give maximum value to all our partners and sponsors we felt it was important that as a new project, the event must have the desired impact.

"The first quarter of the year is an ideal time and fairly uncluttered from an entertainment point of view and it is a fantastic time to visit Durban as it falls outside of the peak holiday season."

The second announcement of finalists in the acting categories will be made on 23 October and voting lines for the Most Popular Soapie opens on 2 November.

As much as the idea was great, it was evident that the awards were troubled. Having changed PR companies three times, changed their logo and launched the awards twice, the Royalty Soapie Awards have really been a whole lot of hype and nothing more.
They finally released their nominees for the technical and artistic categories earlier this week, where Binneland and Isibaya lead with 9 nominations.

The awards were supposed to be on 2 November 2013 at the Durban ICC.
