What's Happening?

Isidingo: "Endemol would like to categorically inform you that we are NOT linked or involved with the said agency."

When will people learn?

Endemol, the producers of SABC 3's Isidingo have distanced themselves from the BBM messages doing the rounds about a casting on the soap. There's apparently a BBM message from a modelling agency about a casting for "Females 14 to 21 years old, White, Indian or Coloured, required for leading role in the series. Ping me if interested."

The SABC 3 soapie just celebrated 15 years on air.

In a statement released this afternoon, Isidingo's  casting coordinator, Khanyisa Jali said that  they are not linked or involved with the agency. And that the agency is also being misrepresented. “We only deal with reputable casting agencies that have been in the industry for years, we never deal with individuals...We would like to advise people; especially young girls; to take note and be cautious when responding to casting advertisement. Isidingo is a family show and will never ask individuals for nude pictures. We advise you to please contact reputable casting agencies in future”.

Isidingo EP, Pumla Hopa condemned the BBM message doing the rounds and said :“We advise young women to scrutinise information carefully before falling prey to vicious opportunists.”

It is concerning how many people could get duped into believing this fake casting call, putting themselves in danger. We commend Endemol and Isidingo for reacting quickly to stop this happening. Let's hope that no one has been hurt by this. Aspirant actors should find themselves reputable casting agencies and only go to auditions when there's a general casting call for characters. The quest for fame sadly leads many to want to take short cuts and as many successful actors can tell you, there's no shortcut in making it in the industry.
