Last year's Idols wunderkind, Khaya Mthethwa, is making a foray into TV presenting. Mzansi Magic revealed a few weeks ago that the Idols and Clash of the Choirs champion, is going to host the new gospel talk show on Mzansi Magic; Gospel Alive,
If you follow Khaya on Twitter, you'd have seen sneak peaks into the show, his guests and the band.
The show is basically a gospel talk show, where Khaya invites his fellow gospel musicians, chats with them for a bit, allow the studio audience to ask a few questions and then the invited artist will then perform, backed by the studio choir, of which Khaya is the musical director. So it's a bit like It's Gospel Time and Gospel Classics meets Live AMP. No, it's not a bad thing. It just means that producers know what works and they just change it a bit to give it a fresh spin.
Also, great choice in Khaya. He's a natural on TV and has the talent as musical director, to back it up. It's great how he's working hard- now we wait for that gospel album. Surely it's not far-fetched to expect it?
This is what he said about the show: “Gospel Alive means more growth for me holistically and it gives me a great opportunity to cultivate my brand (seriously Khaya? Brand?) into something bigger. What excites me the most about the show is that it is a fresh concept. This show is going to go places South African Gospel shows have never been before. I am so honoured to be part of it and I can’t wait to see how Mzansi Magic viewers will embrace it.”
There's little doubt that they will. He's very popular and his squeaky clean image endears him to many. Not to mention his amazing talent.
The show premieres on Mzansi Magic on Sunday, 3 November at 7pm
