Africa's Next Top Model: Meet the Cast

Earlier this year, African supermodel, Oluchi Orlandi announced that she had acquired the contract to do the African version of the hit model reality show, American's Next Top Model. Created by her one time Victoria's Secret colleague, Tyra Banks, the model search is very popular and there are more than 20 other versions of the show around the world. Africa's Next Top Model is the second one in Africa. The first one is West Africa's Next Top Model.

Africa's Next Top Model started last night on DStv's Africa Magic and already it looks like there's going to be some hectic drama.

But besides the drama and the model's aspirations to be Africa's best, we need to meet the judges and the models.

The Judges

Oluchi Orlandi
Creator of the African version of the hit American reality series, she really needs no introduction. She won the 1998 M-Net Face of Africa model search and her career skyrocketed. She walked the runways of high fashion design houses, including Chanel, Dior, Armani and John Galliano. She crossed over to the commercial side, where she was a Victoria's Secret Angel for seven years, did Sports Illustrated and fronted campaigns for Gap, Banana Republic and Gianfranco FerrĂ©. She's been snapped by some of fashion's great, including Steven Meisel David LaChapelle, and Patrick Demarchelier.

Josie Borain
Another African supermodel turned photographer. Josie is one of the big model success stories of South Africa. She has worked with Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, graced the covers of major international fashion glossies. She was so huge, that she even got a Calvin Kleing billboard on Times Square. She's now mostly a photographer. She's a fine talent and a surprisingly great addition to the judging panel.

Remi Adetiba
We are not familiar with Remi, but according to the bio provided by ANTM, he's a noted photographer (see what we did there?) and an advertising creative director, which gives him enough credentials to be a judge on the show. He has worked with MTV, Sony, Microsoft, Nivea and The Kanye West Foundation. He's worked with Oluchi before and other top models. As the ANTM website states: "He brings not only a photographer’s eye, but a strong advertising pedigree to panel when he assesses each girl’s performance."

The Models

Michaela, Cheandre and Safira

Roselyn, Joyce, Steffi

Rhulani, Aamito, Marwa

Opeyemi, Michelle, Omowunmi

Some of SA's best fashion designers, Thula Sindi, David Tlale, Marianne Fassler and Craig Port, are said to be featuring and Tyra Banks will also be apparently judging one of the episodes- maybe the finale?

May the best lady win.
