It's a ratings war! This Sunday will make for interesting TV viewing- it's the SA Sports Awards and the 6th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards. Both will air from 8pm on SABC 1 and SABC 2, respectively.
As much as some would ask themselves why SABC would schedule to broadcast two major awards functions at the same time, I say great going SABC!
There's nothing as awesome as having a choice on what to watch, especially on free-to-air TV, which sometimes has slim pickings. There's hardly any variety, especially since SABC 1 airs those old movies, SABC 2 has Rebecca Malope's It's Gospel Time, SABC 3 is currently airing old seasons of Monk and e.tv will most probably be airing another edition of Anaconda. So kudos to them for pitting the two shows against each other and may the best one win.
The Sports Awards will be hosted by Robert Marawa, Minnie Dlamini and Thomas Mlambo. Check this coming Sunday's TV Snitch on what I think about this. Also, check the blog on Sunday to see who we think should have hosted the awards. SuperSport will also broadcast the awards, starting at 7.45pm to include a build-up and analysis of the awards.
The Crown Gospel Awards will be hosted by Thembi Seete and Thabo Mdluli. Also going live at 8pm on SABC 2, this is the sixth edition of the awards and the first time that they are being broadcast live for the audience at home. This is a good move by the SABC. It really was pointless airing the awards two weeks later and the edit has always been rather disappointing to those of us who were at the actual awards.
So viewers are in for a treat this Sunday. If you're a sporting and music fan, tune in to both awards show. SABC 1 and SABC 2 at 8pm.
May the best awards show win!
