Such shocking news. Really surprisingly shocking news. Nonhle Thema has joined the cast of Mzansi Magic's rather disappointing drama, Zabalaza. The famed presenter who fell from grace two years ago, after thinking she's the female version of Charlie Sheen, has slowly been getting back into society's good graces. She got a reality show with e.tv Reality Check and is rumoured to be getting her own TV show soon. Yet this announcement from Mzansi Magic that she has joined the cast of Zabalaza is not what we expected from her. Are times that tough Nonhle? And even worse, she's replacing the talented, award winning Nolwazi Shange? I don't think we have enough words.
Here's the press release:
*** Press Release***
Nonhle Thema will make her debut in Mzansi Magic’s (Channel 161) groundbreaking Lokshin soapie, Zabalaza, on December 2nd.
The South African entertainment all-rounder takes on the role of Kgomotso, the pregnant, unwanted, nagging girlfriend of Moss Cele (Matli Mohapeloa).
Thema replaces Nolwazi Shange, who introduced Kgomotso as a shy, sweet girl when Zabalaza debuted on Mzansi Magic in May this year. Thema will continue Kgomotso’s journey to marry into the Celes, the family at the centre of Zabalaza’s action.
“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to join the cast of Zalabalaza,” says Thema.
“Not only is the show first of its kind in the genre of Lokshin soapies but the cast have done a great job of bringing a township story right into the homes of viewers all over the country. It is going to be wonderful to be part of that.”
Zabalaza is broadcast Mondays to Thursdays 21:00 on Mzansi Magic (Channel 161) and also on M-Net’s brand new, local, general entertainment offering, Mzansi Wethu (Channel 163) in the same timeslot.
Oh well, I guess she's taking after her mom, Cynthia Shange. But I still say Nonhle is best as a presenter than an actress. Her 'reality' show, Nonhle Goes to Hollywood was a sign of just how terrible her acting skills really are. And now Mzansi Magic expects us to believe that she'll do a good job replacing such a talented actress, Nolwazi Shange?
