Dear American Horror Story: Coven: Thank You!
I'm sure you know why I'm thanking the amazing AHS:Coven? It's basically through them that TV channels like WGN realised that people are fascinated by witches- but it has to be a good story, with history and the needed gravitas to be taken as serious TV fodder.
And that's where Salem comes in. The first original series commissioned by WGN, Salem is of course set in 17th century Massachusetts and it "explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In Salem, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem..."
The show stars Janet Montgomery as the ruthless but vulnerable Mary Sibley, Salem's most powerful enchantress. Shane West stars as a hardened war veteran John Alden, and Mary's onetime love interest. Starring alongside Shane and Janet are Ashley Madekwe, Seth Gabel and Xander Berkeley.
While's definitely not American Horror Story: Coven it might just be the next best supernatural TV show. Anything over vampires, really.
