Meet SNL's new cast member: Sasheer Zamata

Finally! After seven years, Saturday Night Live has finally added a black female cast member on the comedy sketch show. Comedienne, Sasheer Zamata, was announced early this week as the new cast member of SNL. Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) was the last woman of colour to be part of the permanent cast and she left the show seven years ago. NBC and Lorne Michaels were under increasing pressure last year to add a black female cast member to the show. Even when Kerry Washington hosted the show last year, her sketches called to task the lack of black females on the show.

Sasheer is a talented comedienne and after being auditioned with 25 other actresses, she got the role. She’s part of the respected Upright Citizens Brigade, an improvisational comedy and sketch comedy group based in New York and Los Angeles. It boasts former SNL cast members, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Tina Fey and Fred Armisten in its alumni! We are in good hands and she makes her debut on local screens on 25 January 2014 episode on Comedy Central.

Here are videos of her various different sketches and comedy routines.

She's good! And she can stay!!!
