So this is actually happening. Marvel, in collaboration with ABC (they are both owned by The Walt Disney Company) have created a Revenge comic book. Revenge: The Secret Origin of Emily Thorne will be released in September 2014.
The comic book will be a graphic novel and serves as a prequel to the Emily Van Camp drama, Revenge. It was written by Erica Schultz and Ted Sullivan, a writer and the executive story editor on Revenge. According to reports by The Wrap, Revenge: The Secret Origin of Emily Thorne takes place when the orphaned Amanda Clarke is 19-years-old after training with her mentor, Takeda, she ventures out on her first revenge mission in Switzerland. The novel will portray an Emily with faults and who makes mistakes, and fans of the show will be able to connect with the future version of her that appears Revenge.
“The parts of the history we’re bursting to tell is the origin of the woman you see that shows up in the pilot, as differentiated from the girl who was thrown into [juvenile detention] when her dad was taken from her,” Revenge's new showrunner (executive producer) Sunil Nayar told USA Today.
“There is a difference between Emily and a regular vigilante. She’s not Charles Bronson — she doesn’t put a bullet in someone’s head,” Ted Sullivan said. “She is a comic-book character. She has an identity — she’s a rich person who poses as a socialite during the day and at night exacts vengeance. Because she is such a complicated character and has a lot of villains in her past, graphic novels are a really natural fit.”
We like this move and we are looking forward to reading it. And even more awesome is that we'll get to read more about Nolan, who just has to feature in the book! Pretty clever of ABC and Marvel Comics, we have to say.
As stated above, the graphic novel will be available on September 3 2014.
