Metro FM Music Awards- The Fashion Report

It was a musical celebration of freedom at the 13th Metro FM Music Awards held on Saturday at Durban’s  Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
Pearl Thusi on the black carpet in an Avant dress.
Hosted by Isidingo actress Pearl Thusi and Metro FM shock jock and RGB host, Phat Joe, the Metro FM Awards were held in Durban for the second consecutive year, with sponsorship from the government of KwaZulu-Natal and eThekwini Municipality.
This is the fourth time it was hosted by the city, the first having been in 2003 and the second in 2004.

Sinazo Yolwa, Zizo Beda, Amanda duPont and Tamarsha Gambushe
Fashion is a talking point  at such events,  although this year Metro FM chose to have guests walking a black and not a red carpet.  Bellair-born Tarmasha Gambushe hosted the black carpet after winning the presenter search run by SABC 1’s RGB. She was joined on the red carpet by RGB co-hosts, Sinazo Yolwa, Amanda du Pont and Selimathunzi's Zizo Beda. All three wore nude dresses, to varying degrees of success. Maybe Sinazo should've removed that hair jewellery? It just didn't work. We loved Zizo's dress, working the sheer trend to perfection. Tamarsha's dress was stunning in the front, but the back was not as impressive. Amanda Du Pont looked stunning. Plus her beauty look gave her the edge. That vampy red lip was all that was needed to make her one of the best dressed.

Controversial business couple, S’bu and Shauwn Mpisane, set off a multitude of cameras. Shauwn wore a custom-made Francois Vedemme peplum gown. It's a pity we didn't get to see the shoes. Most probably Alexander McQueen. I just wish they'd taken off the shades. They are not exactly stars now, are they? Bheki Cele rocked a fedora while his wife, Thembeka Ngcobo, wore an off-white gown with lace overlay.  Probably also by Vedemme. That gold belt could've been left at home though.

Mayor James Nxumalo and his wife attended the awards, as well as Deputy Mayor Nomvuzo Shabalala. I just wish that the mayor and his wife would get special styling for awards. If you choose to attend such events, please make sure that your clothes are stunning?
MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Mike Mabuyakhulu,  was there in a black brocade suit.

Mafikizolo stunned in fashion forward looks. By stunned we mean we couldn't move when we saw what Nhlanhla Nciza's ostrich mess. Theo Kgosinkwe's Skorzch suit was great though.

In good news, Zahara clearly has a new stylist, looking great in an Asanda Madyibi creation. Minnie Dlamini and Unathi Msengana also wore Madyibi designs. Msengana mentioned that her shoes were Valentino and while we get that the jumpsuit is on trend, it just didn't work. I did like her on stage outfit. Her body is impressive too, so she could pull it off.

Speaking of Metro FM DJs wearing luxury brands,  Tbo Touch wore Louis Vuitton sneakers and a leather shirt. He couldn't wait to tell everyone about the sneakers, even picking up his feet to show us the iconic LV sign. *sigh* Plus he was the only one who came in a Hummer limousine. But that leather dashiki just needs to go. And that gold chain. And that beard. Stop it!

With that said, most of gents looked great. Danny K came with his wife, Lisa Gundelfinger., who is five months pregnant, but doesn't look it. He wore a Tiger of Sweden suit and his wife wore a Nicole Miller dress and Christian Louboutin heels. Beautiful couple, but Lisa always looks the same. Maybe a longer dress will be better? Idols judge Randall Abrahams, looked dapper in a black suit. He was there with his partner, Nadine Oberholzer, who was in a 20s style gold dress. Durban ladies, The Arrows wore Jeremy Scott for Adidas. We loved Pam's basketball shirt and heels look. Christie's blue lipstick was a fail.

Boity Thulo, whose pert derriere graced Marie Claire’s Naked Issue, wore a hot pink gown. She and Nandi both decided to walk the black carpet without their rumoured partners, Maps Maponyane and Zakes Bantwini. Luthando Shosha was a nervous wreck, but she managed to turn it on for the cameras. Plus she was one of the best dressed in that Avant dress.

Sophie Ndaba, Raphulana Seiphemo and Winnie Modise

Generations actresses Sophie Ndaba and Winnie Modise wore David Tlale and looked amazing. Task Force actor, Rapulana Seiphemo was dapper and awesome in Fabiani. Also looking debonair was Isidingo's Vusi Kunene in Palse Homme. That bolt of pink was a welcome choice. And he still looked macho in it.
Isidingo's Vusi Kunene impressed in Palse Homme
Fashion stylist and commentator Mthoko Chiyi was impressed with the fashion, saying it was an improvement from last year. “The gents made a concerted effort and and the ladies were very impressive. They followed trends and I could easily give the fashion 80 percent,” said Chiyi. Even with that being said, there were some, like these ladies below,  who just didn't impress.

The biggest surprise though, was Zulu Boy who actually suited up in a white tuxedo!

Now for the Royalty Soapie Awards red carpet. Fun times ahead.
