Breaking: SABC 1 to FINALLY air the 1st Royalty Soapie Awards

It's been a long time coming.

SABC 1 and the Royalty Soapie Awards just released a statement a few minutes ago announcing that the inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards will be finally aired on Thursday, 17 April 2014 on SABC 1 at 10pm.

The awards, the first of their kind in South Africa, took place on the 8th March 2014 at the Durban ICC. Mzansi Magic's Isibaya, took top honours, walking away with 10 of the 18 awards the show was nominated for, including Outstanding Soapie, Actress and Actor.

The awards were supposed to be broadcast, live, on SABC 1, but were not due to a late agreement between the RSAs and the SABC. This is why the awards are being broadcast six weeks after they took place.

The awards will be a 72 minute special, including a red carpet insert by The Link's Lerato Kganyago.

Shaleen Surtie-Richards was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30 year contribution to the industry and her memorable roles on soapies such as Egoli, Generations, Villa Rosa and 7de Laan.

Performers included Mafikizolo and Ian von Memerty, with Hlomla Dandala and Michael Mol serving as hosts.

So if you want to tune in, do so on Thursday, SABC 1 at 10pm

PICS: Gcina Ndwalane and Rajesh Jantilal
