We just received word from Isidingo's publicist, Dambisa Maqoga, that Don Mlangeni-Nawa, who plays original cast member, Zeb Matabane, was in a disciplinary hearing today. (19/05/2014)
According to the press release, the hearing was as a result of Mlangeni-Nawa's disregard for conduct codes and lack of discipline while contracted to the Endemol produced daily drama, Isidingo. This then led the company to call him to a disciplinary hearing. “This disciplinary hearing is unfortunate, but necessary,” Sivan Pillay, Endemol’s Managing Director says.
“It is important to note that mutual respect, by and for the entire cast and crew of the show, is something we take very seriously,” Pillay asserts.
In November last year, Mlangeni-Nawa was reported to be fired by the soapie after he refused to stick to the script, when his character had to endorse Standard Bank. A source close to the situation last year, said: "It was part of the script and when he was supposed to mention the name, he skipped it. The bosses were unhappy with him."
It later turned out that Mlangeni-Nawa only met with the bosses of Isidingo and the SABC to talk about the matter and was never fired.
With this disciplinary action now hanging over his head, will he be soon written out of the show? Sivan Pillay's words- "No one actor or crew member is bigger..." should spell alarm bells.
We'll update when we have further details.
