What's Happening?

@Official_SABC1's The X-Factor South Africa: What we know so far

So, with SABC 1 announcing on Twitter that they have acquired Simon Cowell's hit show, The X-Factor for South Africa, news has been coming in very slowly. Actually, there has been NO news, except the channel confirming that the show really is going to be happening. There has been no announcement so far, of the host/s, the judges and Simon's involvement in the show.

What We Know

*The X-Factor South Africa will be broadcast on SABC 1
*Bonang Matheba will NOT be hosting the show, as she denied it on Twitter, yesterday.
*Rapid Blue, which is one of the top reality competition show, production houses, is behind the show in South Africa.
*Syco is apparently heavily involved in the show, to make sure that it matches up to the other shows in other countries.

What We Don't Know

*Who the host is
*Who the judges are
*Where the show will be shot
*Will Simon Cowell be making an appearance?

What Our Sources (and the rumour mill) have told us

X-Factor South Africa judges? AKA, Jill Scott, Lira and Zakes Bantwini

Now, we have to tell you that this is PURELY what is RUMOURED to be TRUE. We have tried to confirm with the channel, but no one is saying anything.

Firstly, the rumour mill (@Barry_Clarke93) tweeted us this morning with news of the judges
Now yesterday, we posted about the possibility of AKA, Lira, Jill Scott and Zakes Bantwini being judges and why we think they are good choices.
X-Factor South Africa mentor? Tiwa Savage
Nigerian star, Tiwa Savage, was also apparently courted to be a judge on the show, but chose to rather play the role of mentor. In any case, American soul singer and actress, Jill Scott was the first choice of the producers, who we are told, went to the USA to sign her up.

Now, it's great that there's an international judge, which is a common thing with most X-Factor editions. We just hope our 'stars' don't get star struck by working with Jill Scott. And also we hope that they don't put her on a pedestal  but realise they are all working together to find the next big star.

X-Factor South Africa hosts? Nomuzi Mabena and Lungile Radu

Our source has told us that MTV Base VJ, Nomuzi Mabena will be co-hosting the show with former Rhythm City actor and Big Brother Mzansi presenter, Lungile Radu. According to our source, their screen test impressed producers and they had the right chemistry for the show, unlike Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian. #noshade

Zaziwa presenter, Pearl Modiadie, was apparently also screen tested, but it didn't pan out with the co-host.

Simon Cowell

Apparently Simon Cowell really wants the South African edition of The X-Factor to be a success and his Syco TV is investing a lot into the South African production. Our source tells us that he will be making a cameo on the first episode, where he'll be giving the judges directive over what they should be looking for.

According to our source, a promo is being shot in Cape Town soon and will be reminiscent of The X-Factor Israel's high powered promo with Bar Refaeli and Simon Cowell. The trailer will be directed by the same person who did the Israel promo, and will be "Hiring out big helicopters and limos".

We wish the channel, Syco, Rapid Blue and all the parties involved, would hurry up with the information, already!
