It's that time of the year again, when the whole of South Africa (and parts of Africa) descends on Durban for the annual Vodacom Durban July. The VDJ has become one of the major social events to be seen in, every year. If you're one of the most famous people in South Africa, there is a very high possibility that you've been to the event.
It's become a fashion extravaganza and guests (from celebrities, socialites to government people) try their best to make sure they show off their sartorial wares. With this year's theme being "The Big Screen" its fairly obvious to expect revelers to look to Hollywood, Bollywood and Nollywood for inspiration.
Last week, SM Magazine ran a piece about VDJ fashiom, with advice from Top Billing's Bonang Matheba.
Now with all of South Africa's celebrities in Durban, we all want to see what they will be wearing and what they think of the VDJ this year. Several channels, but mainly the SABC, will be going live tomorrow, with red carpet coverage and more on SABC 3.
Top Billing, Expresso and Morning Live presenters, Jeannie D, Katlego Maboe and Vaylen Kirtley, will be hosting SABC 3's VDJ coverage. Jeannie and Katlego will be looking after the fashion and celebrity side of things, with Somizi Mhlongo assisting them, while Vaylen will do what she does best- be a sports anchor and talk to horse race fundis and the sports side of things.
Jeannie and Katlego, featuring Somizi, will cover the red carpet for 30 minutes and Vaylen will then have the rest of the show from 3pm until the R3,5 million Vodacom Durban July race has been run.
Also expect other lifestyle shows, like Vuzu's V-Entertainment, SABC 1's Selimathunzi, and SABC 3's Expresso and Top Billing, amongst others, to have special VDJ coverage for their shows in the coming week.
The Sunday Tribune and SMtv and SM Magazine teams will be out in full force, to cover the VDJ. Don't forget to purchase the Sunday Tribune on Sunday for the full coverage.
